.my DOMAIN REGISTRY [legal entity being MYNIC Berhad (Company No: 735031-H)] is the sole administrator for web addresses that end with .my in Malaysia. .my DOMAIN REGISTRY administers the name space for the .my top level domain (TLD). This involves the registration of domain names as well as the maintenance and operation of a domain name registry (a central database for .my domain names).

Client Situation

In 2009, the customer was planning to extend its domain registry to its resellers though web api’s so that the end customers can have the smooth experience, without shifting form the resellers’ website to MYNIC website and back to reseller’s website. SoftSolvers was engaged as consultant to study and validate their approach and the choice of the package.

Requirements / Problems / Issues
The new system shall enable MYNIC customer to submit requests to register the domain name application in real time mode. The system shall accept and validate input data and immediately write the data into the relevant databases along with its audit trail. The system should be platform independent and also secure from any external entities.

SoftSolvers proposed a Web Services based secure way of opening API for the domain registry with the robust architecture that is scalable for customers future business needs. The unique aspect of the approach is to identify the high impact, low risk areas’ and reengineer them towards the ‘To Be ‘architecture, so that the customer can reap benefits fairly quickly.

Technology Platform
SoftSolvers used struts Framework, a flexible and generic architecture, which is an extension of MVC architecture with J2EE standards. The web services layer was create using Apache Axis 2 and Rational tool suite was used for Requirements management, design, testing and defect management. In addition SoftSolvers used a Build tool (WSAD integrated build tool & Apache Ant) and CVS for configuration management.
